FAQ: PAL Aviation School x Airways Aviation Group Pilot Training Program

Since we’ve received a lot of inquiries about the relaunch of the PAL Aviation School and its partnership with Australia-based Airways Aviation Group, we’ve put together this FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) to address the most common questions. This newly revitalized training program reflects Philippine Airlines’ strong commitment to producing world-class pilots through globally aligned education and top-tier instruction. Whether you’re an aspiring pilot or simply curious about the program, this FAQ will help you understand what the partnership means and how it aims to shape the future of aviation in the Philippines.


1. What training programs will be offered under the new PAL Aviation School?

The Philippine Airlines (PAL) Ab-Initio Pilot Training Program is a self-funded 18-month* program designed to train, educate, and develop aspiring pilots for the new generation of global aviation. 

Qualified trainees will study and train at Airways Aviation facilities in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. Airways Aviation is PAL’s partner in the provision of pilot training courses for the PAL Aviation School, offering:

– Commercial Pilot License with Instrument Rating
– 200 hours of flight time experience

*NOTE: Training period might be longer than indicated, depending on a variety of circumstances, but not limited to acts of God.


2. Will the training comply with international aviation standards and licensing requirements?

Yes. Airways Aviation’s certified EASA, CASA, ICAO, and IATA courses combine the most advanced practical and theoretical techniques to match the rapidly increasing demand for commercial pilots in quality airlines such as PAL.


3. Who can apply to the PAL Aviation School under this new partnership?

Anyone who has graduated and received an undergraduate bachelor’s degree or baccalaureate program from a college or university can apply for the program. 


4. What are the admission requirements for aspiring pilot trainees?

Aside from holding an undergraduate bachelor’s degree or baccalaureate program, students must meet the medical requirements set by PAL.


5. How much does the training program cost, and are there financing options available?

PAL’s recruitment team will contact you and provide you with a list of fees/costs after we have completed and satisfied the initial pre-screening of your application.

Training costs will be provided after the pre-screening process. Fees are quoted in Australian Dollars (AUD) due to the training location in Australia. Philippine Airlines has a partnership with the Philippine National Bank (PNB), which you can use to check if you qualify for a loan. Alternatively, you can finance your way through other banks or lending institutions of your preference. Your parents/guardians can also try to apply for the loan on your behalf.

Financing applications should be made after receiving the panel interview result. 


6. Will students have access to PAL or other airlines for employment after graduation?

While employment is not guaranteed, graduates may be given an interview based on company needs. Selection is subject to the availability of job slots.


7. Is the PAL Aviation School now open for international students?

PAL Aviation School students need to be a Philippine passport holder.


8. What type of aircraft and simulation technology will be used in training?

During ground school training, students will use the fixed-base ALSIM AL250 simulator, located at the Airways Aviation campus on the Gold Coast, Australia. Trainees will also conduct flight training using single-engine aircraft such as the Cessna C172R and C172S at the school’s flight facilities in Brisbane and Gold Coast.


9. How long is the duration of the pilot training program?

The entire program will approximately last for about 18 months (1 and a half years), subject depending on a variety of circumstances, but not limited to acts of God.


10. Will graduates be eligible for licenses both in the Philippines and Australia?

The student trainees are to be issued with a Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA – Australia) license while undergoing the program, but they will be converting to a Philippine license upon return to the country.


11. Will there be scholarships or government support for deserving candidates?

Currently, there are no scholarships for the PAL Ab-Initio Pilot Training Program. However, the Fly With Her program offers support for aspiring female pilots.

The “Fly With Her” Program is designed to support qualified Filipina pilot cadets who are new to aviation and have not yet received any flight school training.

12. How can I apply to the PAL Aviation School’s training program?

13. Are there other future training programs planned beyond pilot training (e.g., cabin crew, aircraft maintenance)?

PAL currently has the ACE Training Program for aircraft mechanics. Announcement for the next batch will be announced on the Philippine Airlines and PAL Express pages soon. Acceptance to the program will be open only on a limited-time basis.

Other programs offered beyond pilot training are available under the Philippine Airlines Training Center (PATC). Interested individuals may directly contact PATC.
